The foundations are one of the most important parts of your business and yet so many entrepreneurs don’t spend enough time building strong ones.

The foundations that I’m talking about can be summed up by these 4 questions:

What do you stand for?
These are your values, your vision and your legacy.

Who is your customer?
Knowing who your business serves will help you determine your content, messaging and help you to build your brand.

What does your customer need?
The problems they have and the things that they most desire.

What are you going to sell?
The problem you’re going to solve and the products and services that will take away the customer’s pain.

Just like a house or a tall building, without strong foundations your business is at risk.

If you don’t know who your ideal customer is or you haven’t thought about your messaging or the problem that you’re going to solve, you’re going to find that when you begin marketing and broadcasting your message, it won’t always hit the mark. Eventually it will feel like there’s something missing.

Foundations are typically overlooked because entrepreneurs are keen to work on the shiny and nice things and it can sound a bit boring. In reality, until you have your foundations nailed, nothing else matters. Your logo won’t matter. The colours of your business or your business cards won’t matter. Because the compass for your brand is essentially broken.

So if you’re just starting out or looking to grow your business, work on building epic foundations. It’ll be worth the time.
